My Work…
Wood Carving
My main chosen art medium is in wood, especially red cedar, yellow cedar and yew. Each wood type is versatile and allows me to explore different techniques, shapes and mediums as I grow as a K’omoks and Kwakwaka’wakw artist. For small pieces like rattles and combs, I might use a hard wood like yew. For larger pieces like traditional drum logs or contemporary carved panels, I use red or yellow cedar. I use different techniques to create the red and yellow cedar panels. By embracing the unique qualities of different types of wood, I can show the many sides of Northwest Coasts First Nations carving.
